To help ensure your child’s success in fourth grade, we will begin the year by focusing on good behavior. We will spend a great deal of time going over the rules and procedures so your child will know what is expected of them at all times. The rules listed below are posted in our classrooms and will be our guide for behavior standards throughout the school year. Each rule relates directly to one or more of the school wide SAIL (Safe Accountable Independent Leaders) positive behavior expectations.
The students are seated in cooperative groups. However, they will earn money individually. Throughout the day, students will earn and lose “Leader Loot” by their behavior. For instance, Bob has all his materials ready for Math class; he may earn $500 Leader Loot for himself OR Sue was talking to Randy, disrupting the lesson; they would each lose $500 Leader Loot. The monetary figure will vary depending on the action of the students, but generally, a fine will be greater in order to persuade that action from reoccurring. In addition to Leader Loot classes will receive SAIL tickets for class behavior in common areas of the building. Rewards will be given to classes based on the amount of SAIL tickets a class earns.
There will be opportunities to spend Leader Loot on activity time, computer time, or extra privileges such as eating lunch with the teacher. This will take place on the last Friday of every month. Besides these spending options, there will be two auctions held, one near the Winter break and the other at the end of the school year. As that time approaches, we will ask for donations of items to sell (new or used). For the auctions and other spending times, the students are responsible to buy items on their own.
- Eyes front and ears open when the teacher is talking
- Kind words or no words
- Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself
- Change tasks quickly and quietly
- Raise your hand for permission to speak
- Your child will be given a verbal warning and “Leader Loot” will be taken
- A conference between student and teacher will take place to discuss an action plan to help the student be more successful in making positive behavior choices
- A call or written note will be sent home
- A visit to the office will be made
